Saturday Steps of Faith #20

Steps of Faith

What are you believing God for?

Do you trust God enough to take Him at His word?

Not only for your neighbor or friend..., but for you?

Saturday Steps of Faith is our opportunity to publicly claim His promises for our lives. It is the place where we believe God for things great and small.

"Be still, and know that I am God;
I will be exalted among the nations,
I will be exalted in the earth." Psalm 46:10

As we read the headlines of the day or watch the evening news, it becomes abundantly clear that our world is stumbling, even tumbling out of control. Greed, anger, selfishness, immorality, corruption and pride are center stage every day.

Where are the Christians? Where is the church? Do we really believe God is who He says that He is? Do we believe He will do what He says He will do? Will there really be a day when every knee will bow and every tongue will confess that Jesus Christ is Lord?

I believe it is time for believers to be still. It is the time for us to really KNOW our God. Not based on what our Pastors, Teachers or Parents have told us..., but to know Him intimately, personally from His Word. We must stop talking "about God", be still and listen for the voice of God again.

Lord, give us ears to hear. Speak to our hearts. Stir our souls again. May your Spirit fall fresh upon your church. May we exalt your name among the nations. Let our generation impact the earth one more time with the fervent message that Jesus is the answer to all of life's questions. He is the way, the truth and the life. There is no other way to be saved.

I believe God!

How about you? Will you please join me?

Lisa,

I totally agree and want to encourage others as well, to be still, be in God's word, seek Him in prayer. Not pastors, neighbors, family...but HIM. BELIEVE GOD. To know for ourselves what He has to say to us.

Love to you,
Yolanda

Yes, Lisa, we do need to be 'still'. As I read your post, I actually stumbled over the word 'still' as it was not what I expected. Everyone is always calling for 'action' of some sort. BUT... stillness is exactly what we need to be doing so we can truly KNOW God and know His ways so well that they are ours.
I join you, Lisa. I pray my heart's ears and eyes are open to hear and see God.

Lisa, my husband and I were just talking about this very thing this afternoon. We can't see where our nation is going be in another few years but we KNOW that God will be there in the hearts and souls of the believers. I want to have a NOW hope.

Blessings!

Yes, many folks do comment and complain that the world is getting worse and worse, but, to interject another view, you cannot prove it by me. Let me share just two things that happened at work this week. On Thursday, we learned that one of our employees at a branch office is desperately ill and out of sick leave, so we began a campaign to donate sick leave. With 400 employees and each person donating one or more hours -- I donated a full day and I am sure there were others who did the same -- this employee will not have to worry for months about income! Then, today, one of my employees came to me and said he needed to take some time off because his wife is in the hospital and the doctors are not sure what is wrong. He seemed to want more than condolences, so, in spite of the prohibition of mixing church and state (I work for the government), I asked him if his wife also needed some prayers. He was relieved and said yes, pointing out how almost the entire leadership is Catholic (sort of unusual), and I suggested he stop in to each office on his way out the door to ask for prayers, and he did. I just cannot believe that the world is impossibly bad when these kinds of things happen on a near-daily basis in my office, which is a place where religious discussion is taboo. (And the taboo is ignored.)

Thank you Elizabeth for visiting my blog. I hope you will come by and visit again. I very much appreciate your comments.

You are so right. There are many good, kind and gracious people in our world. I see evidence of that each and every day in my own life as well. I certainly didn't intend to give the picture of nothing but doom and gloom.

My purpose in writing the post was to challenge Christians and those who are part of a local body of believers to be who God called us to be. After Jesus died on the cross and arose from the grave, He spent time with his followers before returning to Heaven. He laid out a mission for them and subsequently for us. That mission is:

15He said to them, "Go into all the world and preach the good news to all creation. 16Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved, but whoever does not believe will be condemned. Acts 16:15-16

It's time that we quit "just going to church" and learn to "be the church" again by getting into the Bible and discovering the true heart of God. We can't just know about Him, we need to know Him. It's time that we get our focus back on the mission that Jesus left us with - loving people and telling them about Jesus.

In a world filled with so many troubles, God has given us a great opportunity to show His love and share His grace with those around us. There are so many in need right now - not just physically, but spiritually as well. I want to make sure that I am faithful to tell everyone how much God loves them. He loves them so much He sent His Son Jesus to die so that they could know forgiveness and have eternal life. That is where our hope lies. That is where the joy comes from - knowing Him, loving Him, serving Him.

I pray that God will show you His love in a special way today!

Blessings ~ Lisa
